Heraeus

Gold, poured and stamped.

Cast gold bar bearing Heraeus, Feingold 999.9, the emblem, the weight and the number
The side with the certificate

A family business headquartered in Hanau. Its roots go back to a pharmacy that the family ran from 1660 onwards.

Cast

The surface of the casting

The number in the metal, enlarged from the product photo.

Cast bars bear Heraeus, Feingold 999.9, the emblem and the weight, punched into a surface left uneven by the flow of the metal. Each cast gold bar also carries a number.

The emblem

The hand with the roses

The emblem, enlarged from the product photo.

Heraeus bars bear a round emblem with the legend HERAEUS EDELMETALLE HANAU. A hand grasps the stems of three roses, with an H beside it.

The hand with the roses comes from the Heraeus family coat of arms, of which the emblem shows only a part. The family chronicle suggests that the apothecary Isaac Heraeus chose the motif in memory of his birthplace, Güstrow.

From the unicorn to the flame

  1. 1668

    “Zum weißen Einhorn”

On the market square of Hanau’s New Town, Isaac Heraeus opens his own pharmacy in a half-timbered house and names it “Zum weißen Einhorn”, the White Unicorn.

  2. 1694

    The first gold

His son, Franz Heraeus, supplies fine gold used to gild the letters, the ball and the weathercock of the French church in Hanau. Heraeus calls this the first contact with precious metals in its history.

  3. 1856

    Germany’s first platinum melt

Platinum is much sought after in jewellery making, but until then it can only be forged and pressed when white-hot. After lengthy experiments, Wilhelm Carl Heraeus melts two kilograms of platinum with an oxyhydrogen blowpipe.

    1768 °C

Platinum does not melt until it reaches this temperature.

  4. 1945

    Destruction and a new beginning

Air raids in 1944 and 1945 almost completely destroy the works in Hanau, and on 19 March 1945 the original pharmacy building as well. After the war, Heraeus at first makes cooking pots, hotplates and immersion heaters. Above the entrance of the original building, rebuilt in 1951 and 1952, a bronze unicorn has recalled the pharmacy ever since.

  5. 2025

    365 years

The family celebrates “365 years of Heraeus”. The company still belongs to the family today.

Assayed in Switzerland

The signature on the card

In our product photos, the card shows the fineness and the weight, the line “Vereidigter Edelmetallprüfer” (sworn assayer) with the signature Ruffoni, and the round seal of Argor-Heraeus with the word Switzerland.

Alessandro Ruffoni had been a sworn assayer at Argor-Heraeus since 1991, licensed by the Swiss Central Office for Precious Metals Control. His signature appeared on the certificates of bars from Argor-Heraeus and from Heraeus. After his retirement in 2023, it was gradually replaced by that of Simone Marsan.

Argor was founded in Ticino in 1951. The name combines argento and oro, the Italian words for silver and gold.

1kg Gold Bar Heraeus (Cast Bar): cast fine gold with a distinctive company logo

  • Investment goal: Gold bars of this size are suited to keeping larger savings out of inflation's reach for the long term.
  • Preserving value: With one kilogram of gold, the substance of your wealth is preserved over many years.
  • Protection: Inflation, economic slowdowns and high national debt wear down savings over the years. A kilo bar holds its ground against them.
  • Format: 1000 g fine weight in a single bar
  • Marking: deep stamping of the manufacturer's name, weight and serial number

High national debt and inflation are more closely linked than many savers suspect. With the 1kg Gold Bar Heraeus (Cast Bar), you counter this link with one kilogram of fine gold, cast in Germany. This gives a large part of your reserves a lasting inflation hedge.

The link between national debt and inflation

When states are heavily indebted, inflation reduces the real value of their debt. For the state this is convenient, because the burden of its debt shrinks without it having to raise taxes or cut spending. For savers, the same process means a loss of purchasing power, which is why economists sometimes call inflation a hidden tax.

Throughout history, heavily indebted states have repeatedly reduced their burdens by also devaluing their currency. Gold is not affected by this mechanism, because its value does not depend on the budget situation of any state. That is why physical gold is regarded as crisis protection whose importance becomes clear precisely in times of high debt. With a kilo bar, this protection extends to a considerable part of your savings.

The company logo with roses on the front

At the top, the bar bears the name Heraeus in large letters, with the word Feingold (German for fine gold) slightly smaller below it. In the centre sits a round logo with a motif of roses. Its inscription names the company Heraeus Edelmetalle and the town of Hanau. Below it the weight of 1000 g is stated, and the serial number follows at the lower edge. The distinctive mark makes the bar recognisable at first glance as a Heraeus product. With a bar of this weight in particular, many investors pay attention to a well-known manufacturer.

Deeply stamped, clearly marked

The cast bar has a shiny gold tone and rounded corners. Its details sit deep in the metal: manufacturer's name, weight and serial number stand out clearly and are easy to read. A certificate of authenticity accompanies the kilo bar.

A kilo bar in the overall picture of your provision

A kilo bar is not bought for the moment, but with a long time horizon. It is intended for money that you do not need for running expenses and deliberately set aside. This part of your wealth in particular needs protection that lasts for many years. If you would like to be able to use partial amounts later as well, you can sensibly complement it with smaller bars or coins. You draw on these when needed, while the kilo bar remains untouched as your foundation. Under tax law, investment gold such as this kilo bar is exempt from VAT.
