Gold bars from C.Hafner

250 g of fine gold, cast.A name,open to scrutiny.

Cast into the bar is the round stamp “MELTER · ASSAYER · C.HAFNER”: the one who melts the metal and the one who tests it. The house has carried the name C. Hafner since 1869.

Cast into the bar is the round stamp “MELTER · ASSAYER · C.HAFNER”: the one who melts the metal and the one who tests it. The house has carried the name C. Hafner since 1869.

The name

The C. stands for Carl.

In 1869, Carl Hafner carries on the sweepings works under his own name: C. Hafner. A reference from his apprenticeship values him for his “loyalty, honesty, love of work and morality”, in the words of his time.

Today, descendants of Carl Hafner run the house in the fifth generation; since 1995, Birgitta Hafner and her cousin Dr. Philipp Reisert have led it together. As its guiding principle, the house names the honourable merchant.

“We have a good name, but it only stays as good as it stands up to external scrutiny.”
Dr. Philipp Reisert, C.Hafner
  • LBMAOn the Good Delivery List of the London Bullion Market Association since 2013, for gold.
  • RJCCertified by the Responsible Jewellery Council to the Code of Practices and Chain of Custody, first in 2016, valid until 7 April 2028.

The assay

If it enters the house,it is tested.

In 1892 the Carl Dieterle assay office joins the house. The assay laboratory works with docimasy, according to C.Hafner the oldest known method of determining the fineness of gold alloys.

Every delivery is analysed. If it is melted down into a bar, that bar is drilled and the drillings are tested for their precious metal content. For the fire assay, a report from 2025 gives two to three days.

The laboratory is accredited by DAkkS as a testing laboratory to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025, for determining fine metals in precious metal alloys, and it takes part in international proficiency tests.

The bar

A ch in a crucible.

The cast bar bears the round stamp “MELTER · ASSAYER · C.HAFNER” around the ch in the crucible. As an assay mark, it names C.Hafner as melter and assayer; this is how the LBMA list describes it.

Added to this are the lettering, the weight, the fineness and a number that the certificate on the card repeats.

C.Hafner calls melting and casting an important part of its DNA as a refinery.

The CertiCard

Once opened,the card shows it.

If the card is opened, the film turns cloudy, and it can no longer be resealed. Since 2015, C.Hafner has packed its bars itself.

C.Hafner supplies this bar in a CertiCard. According to the house, the authenticity and integrity of the packaging can be checked before opening; the certificate states the serial number and confirms the tested purity.

The card bears the seal “MELTER · ASSAYER · C.HAFNER” and “LBMA Good Delivery Refiner”. The print refers to the house, which is on the Good Delivery List for gold, not to the individual bar.

250g Gold Bar C. Hafner: cast fine gold from recycled precious metal for larger reserves

  • Investment goal: A gold bar of this size helps you to shield a significant part of your wealth effectively against inflation.
  • Preserving value: As a lasting store of value, gold preserves the real substance of your savings over long periods.
  • Protection: In phases of rising prices, recession and growing national debt, this bar gives you firm support as crisis protection.
  • Origin: cast in Germany, made by the C. Hafner refinery
  • Authenticity: fineness 999.9/1,000, plus a certificate of authenticity

Anyone who wants to preserve larger sums over decades looks for an asset that no central bank can multiply. The 250g Gold Bar C. Hafner combines a quarter of a kilogram of fine gold in a single cast piece, making it a central building block for your inflation hedge. It is made from recycled material, that is, without newly mined gold.

A counterweight to creeping inflation

Currency devaluation works inconspicuously but steadily: what covers a full monthly budget today will only cover part of it after a few years. The amount of paper money can grow almost without limit, whereas the deposits of the precious metal are limited. This scarcity explains why people have entrusted their wealth to gold for over 6,000 years. It has never had a value of zero, because it carries its value within itself and does not depend on a government's promise.

Recycled fine gold from Baden-Württemberg

C. Hafner is a gold and silver refinery with roots in Pforzheim that has been dedicated to recovering precious metals since 1850. For its fine gold bars, it relies exclusively on secondary material: precious metal that has already been processed and is refined back into pure gold at the refinery. Such gold is no different from newly mined gold and achieves the same purity. You therefore receive fine gold of full quality while conserving natural resources.

What recognition by the LBMA means

The manufacturer holds Good Delivery status from the LBMA, the industry association of the London precious metals market. Before a refinery receives this status, the association thoroughly examines its processes and the quality of its bars. For you as an investor, this counts twice: a bar from a recognised manufacturer is accepted in the precious metals trade worldwide, so you can sell it again if needed. On the accompanying certificate of authenticity you will find the weight and fineness again, supplemented by a security number that clearly identifies the bar.

A quarter of a kilogram of fine gold in a single piece

At 250 g, this bar sits between the small denominations and the heavy kilo bars. It can be stored in a space-saving way in a safe deposit box or safe and combines an equivalent value for which you would otherwise have to keep many small units. As a cast bar, it is created by pouring liquid fine gold into a mould, where it solidifies. As gold neither corrodes nor tarnishes, the bar remains unchanged for generations. As investment gold, it is exempt from VAT. For private investors in Germany, the following also applies: after a holding period of one year, the gain from a sale is tax-free.

Key data of the quarter-kilo bar

  • Manufacturer: C. Hafner
  • Fine weight: 250 g
  • Fineness: 999.9/1,000
  • Finish: cast
  • Country of origin: Germany
  • Condition: new, with certificate of authenticity
The amount printed on a banknote stays the same, its purchasing power does not. A quarter of a kilogram of fine gold remains what it is.

With the 250g Gold Bar C. Hafner, lay a stable foundation that protects your wealth from the silent loss of purchasing power.
