Gold bars from C.Hafner

500 g of fine gold, cast.A name,open to scrutiny.

Cast into the bar is the round stamp “MELTER · ASSAYER · C.HAFNER”: the one who melts the metal and the one who tests it. The house has carried the name C. Hafner since 1869.

Cast into the bar is the round stamp “MELTER · ASSAYER · C.HAFNER”: the one who melts the metal and the one who tests it. The house has carried the name C. Hafner since 1869.

The name

The C. stands for Carl.

In 1869, Carl Hafner carries on the sweepings works under his own name: C. Hafner. A reference from his apprenticeship values him for his “loyalty, honesty, love of work and morality”, in the words of his time.

Today, descendants of Carl Hafner run the house in the fifth generation; since 1995, Birgitta Hafner and her cousin Dr. Philipp Reisert have led it together. As its guiding principle, the house names the honourable merchant.

“We have a good name, but it only stays as good as it stands up to external scrutiny.”
Dr. Philipp Reisert, C.Hafner
  • LBMAOn the Good Delivery List of the London Bullion Market Association since 2013, for gold.
  • RJCCertified by the Responsible Jewellery Council to the Code of Practices and Chain of Custody, first in 2016, valid until 7 April 2028.

The assay

If it enters the house,it is tested.

In 1892 the Carl Dieterle assay office joins the house. The assay laboratory works with docimasy, according to C.Hafner the oldest known method of determining the fineness of gold alloys.

Every delivery is analysed. If it is melted down into a bar, that bar is drilled and the drillings are tested for their precious metal content. For the fire assay, a report from 2025 gives two to three days.

The laboratory is accredited by DAkkS as a testing laboratory to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025, for determining fine metals in precious metal alloys, and it takes part in international proficiency tests.

The bar

A ch in a crucible.

The cast bar bears the round stamp “MELTER · ASSAYER · C.HAFNER” around the ch in the crucible. As an assay mark, it names C.Hafner as melter and assayer; this is how the LBMA list describes it.

Added to this are the lettering, the weight, the fineness and a number that the certificate on the card repeats.

C.Hafner calls melting and casting an important part of its DNA as a refinery.

The CertiCard

Once opened,the card shows it.

If the card is opened, the film turns cloudy, and it can no longer be resealed. Since 2015, C.Hafner has packed its bars itself.

C.Hafner supplies this bar in a CertiCard. According to the house, the authenticity and integrity of the packaging can be checked before opening; the certificate states the serial number and confirms the tested purity.

The card bears the seal “MELTER · ASSAYER · C.HAFNER” and “LBMA Good Delivery Refiner”. The print refers to the house, which is on the Good Delivery List for gold, not to the individual bar.

500g Gold Bar C. Hafner: enduring fine gold against the loss of purchasing power

  • Investment goal: You choose this gold bar to protect a significant part of your wealth effectively against inflation.
  • Preserving value: Gold serves as a lasting store of value and preserves the real worth of your assets.
  • Protection: When governments pile up high debts while inflation and recession eat into your savings, this bar gives you solid support.
  • Key figures: 500 g fine weight, fineness 999.9/1,000, cast

For more than 6,000 years, gold has served people as a store of value. The 500g Gold Bar C. Hafner continues this long experience and protects larger assets from the steady loss of purchasing power of paper money. Anyone who wants to protect their savings against rising prices over decades will find a lasting inflation hedge in this bar.

The bar in detail

Its shape is rectangular with rounded corners, its colour the rich golden yellow of fine gold. In clear, straight letters it bears the name C.HAFNER, with the weight 500 g below and the marking FINEGOLD together with the fineness of the metal. An individual number is stamped along the lower edge, with a round stamp above it. The accompanying certificate of authenticity bears exactly this number. The surface looks smooth and shows a slight texture.

C. Hafner: precious metal from Pforzheim since 1850

The history of C. Hafner begins in 1850 in Pforzheim, which is still regarded today as the centre of the German jewellery and watch industry. Even back then, the company recovered precious metals from the residues produced during processing in the local workshops. C. Hafner has remained true to this path and still makes its bars from recovered gold today. This works because gold loses none of its properties when it is melted down: after refining, recovered gold reaches the same purity as newly mined gold. In addition, the company is recognised as a Good Delivery refinery by the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA).

The permanence of gold

Gold does not rust or tarnish, and air and moisture cannot harm it. Gold jewellery and coins made thousands of years ago still shine today. This permanence has made gold the preferred store of value in many cultures, through every change of rulers and currencies.

When political or economic upheavals occur, gold remains a firm anchor and therefore effective crisis protection for your wealth. Especially where larger savings are concerned, owning half a kilogram of fine gold gives you a reassuring sense of security.

Half a kilogram for larger fortunes

At 500 g, the bar is one of the large formats. It is suitable for investors who want to invest a considerable sum in gold without needing much space for it: thanks to the high value density of gold, a small compartment in a safe is enough. The 500g Gold Bar C. Hafner counts as investment gold and is therefore VAT-free.
