Pyramid of Giza 2026, 1/200 ounce gold, obverse

The front shows the pyramids of Giza before the dunes, the back all seven wonders of the ancient world.

In ancient Egypt

Flesh and bones of the gods

To the Egyptians, gold and silver were more than metal: they could stand for the flesh and the bones of the gods, for the sun and the moon.

Gold was linked with the gods and the deified dead because it lasts; silver, for its pale colour, with the moon and with ritual purity.

Giza · wonder of the ancient world

Built for eternity

The Pyramid of Khufu is the only surviving wonder of the ancient world. Its ancient name was Akhet Khufu, “the Horizon of Khufu”.

In 2013 a team led by Pierre Tallet found the oldest inscribed papyri at the port of Wadi el-Jarf on the Red Sea, among them the logbook of Inspector Merer. His crew of some 40 men belonged to the team “The Uraeus of Khufu Is Its Prow”.

Some 4,600 years ago Merer’s boats carried limestone blocks from the quarries of Tura across the Nile to the pyramid.

The builders of the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure lived in the settlement of Heit el-Ghurab. The state supplied them with fish, fowl, cattle, sheep, goats and pigs.

The gold of the pharaohs

Gold from Nubia and the Eastern Desert

The Egyptian word for gold, nbw, is reflected in the ancient name of Nubia.

The map of the gold mines

Around 1150 BC a map of the Wadi Hammamat was made for a quarrying expedition of Ramesses IV, one of the earliest known maps. According to the geologist James Harrell, it bears labels such as “hills where gold is found” and “hills of gold and silver”.

It is regarded as the oldest known geological map; the next known one only appears in the sources some 29 centuries later.

Silver and the moon

For long, silver was worth more than gold

Temple inscriptions from much of Egypt’s history point to this.

In the land of the pharaohs

Five faces of ancient Egypt

The pieces of this world show Tutankhamun, Nefertiti, Cleopatra, Hatshepsut and Ramesses II. Tutankhamun’s tomb was found largely intact.

Signs of the Nile

What the signs meant

The same signs return on the pieces of this world. This is how major museums describe their meaning in ancient Egypt.

  • Eye of Ra

    Eye of Ra

In the myth the Eye went away and only returned once wine, music and dance had calmed it; in this way the Egyptians explained the yearly journey of the sun to the south and back.

On the Eye of Ra bar

  • Wedjat eye

    Wedjat eye

“Wedjat” means “the one that is sound”: in the myth Seth injured or stole the eye of Horus, and Thoth restored it.

    On a pyramid from Djibouti

  • Scarab

    Scarab

Scarabs with the name and title of their owner often served as seals: their underside was pressed into a lump of clay.

On the scarab from the Solomon Islands

  • Ankh

    Ankh

As a hieroglyph the ankh wrote the words “live” and “life”; as a symbol it stood for life.

    On a pyramid from Djibouti

  • Uraeus

    Uraeus

The rearing cobra with its flared hood was worn on the forehead and was regarded as a sign of protection.

On the death mask from Liberia

  • Cartouche

    Cartouche

In hieroglyphic inscriptions the oval surrounds the names of royal persons.

Minting and finish

Proof on 1/200 ounce

A proof finish sets finely frosted reliefs against a mirror-like field. For this the blanks are polished to a high shine and struck several times.

The back shows the seven wonders in medallions around a central field with the name of Liberia.

Hardly any structure embodies permanence as impressively as the Pyramids of Giza – and hardly any material embodies permanence as much as genuine gold. This 1/200-ounce edition from 2026 brings both together: a design from the history of mankind and the substance of purest fine gold. Even though this strictly limited collector's coin is highly sought after by enthusiasts, for you as an investor the substance is what matters most: minted fine gold whose value tracks the gold price.

A design for eternity

The obverse shows the three pyramids of Giza, rising from gentle sand dunes. The mighty Pyramid of Cheops dominates the image; its individual stone blocks are finely detailed and cast deep shadows. The dark-toned sky creates a dramatic contrast with the gleaming golden desert sand. Around the edge, the German-language inscription "DIE GROSSE PYRAMIDE VON GIZEH" (The Great Pyramid of Giza) runs along the rim, with "1/200 OZ 9999 FINE GOLD" below it. The reverse is the unifying element of the series: seven circular medallions, embedded in a floral ornament, depict all seven legendary wonders of the ancient world – from the pyramids to the Colossus of Rhodes to the Lighthouse of Alexandria. At the center sits the coat of arms of the Republic of Liberia, framed by the face value "25 DOLLARS" and the year of issue "2026".

Purest fine gold in the highest minting quality

This gold coin is crafted from fine gold 999.9/1,000 – the finest that gold processing has to offer. With a diameter of 14.00 mm and a fine weight of 0.16 g, this is pure investment gold in miniature format. The edge is reeded, and the coin is struck in Proof quality: each piece is minted with polished dies on specially prepared blanks, often multiple times, to achieve mirror-like surfaces and razor-sharp contours. The result is a Proof strike that appears flawless even under magnification. It is delivered protected in an elaborately designed coincard.

Physical gold investment in miniature format

Within our range of gold coins, this edition holds a special place: it allows entry into physical gold investment in small steps. Gold is the oldest currency in the world and has preserved its value for over 6,000 years – it possesses intrinsic value and has never, throughout its entire history, been worth zero. Those who accumulate small amounts of gold over the years build up, step by step, a real asset that can be traded worldwide and sold again at any time. Profits from the sale of gold are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.

Gold is humanity's oldest currency and has outlived all others – its shine has endured for millennia and will never fade.

Why this particular edition?

The combination of one of the most famous designs in human history and a very low mintage makes this coin special. With a mintage of only 2,000 pieces worldwide, the available supply is scarce from the outset – a factor that further underscores the value appreciation potential. Whether as an entry point into your own gold investment or as a way to pass on genuine investment gold on a personal occasion such as a birthday or christening: here you are acquiring full-fledged fine gold whose value tracks the gold price.
