Beside the springbok, this Krugerrand bears a Privy Mark: a small additional sign added during striking. It shows a cityscape above the name of the coin fair in Johannesburg.

Under the loupe

A small sign beside the springbok

On the springbok side, below the word KRUGERRAND and to the left of the springbok’s head, there is a small sign.

It shows a cityscape with a tall tower, below it the words JOHANNESBURG COIN FAIR.

To the left and right of the springbok, split into two halves, stands the year the coin was struck: 2024.

The sign of this coin

A cityscape for the coin fair in Johannesburg

The coin fairs are organised by SAAND, the South African Association of Numismatic Dealers: a not-for-profit association of coin dealers based in Johannesburg. The fairs take place in different cities.

The issue bears the name of the 2024 Johannesburg Coin Fair. The fair took place on 17 March 2024 at the Sandton Sun Hotel.

The fair issues are struck as silver Krugerrands.

The term

What a Privy Mark is

A Privy Mark usually recalls a special occasion or an anniversary.

The name comes from the Old French privé. In the past, such marks served to tell apart coins from different periods or from different mint masters, and also as a safeguard against counterfeiting. Today mints place them mainly on commemorative and collector issues.

The name comes from the Old French privé. Today mints place them mainly on commemorative and collector issues.

In 2017, for the 50th anniversary, all collector issues of the Krugerrand bore a Privy Mark with a large 50. In 2024 the South African Mint released an issue whose mark shows the coining press “Oom Paul” and the year 1892, when the first coins were struck on it.

The same coin

A Krugerrand in every respect

The sign is added, the coin stays the same. For the silver ounce in proof, the South African Mint states 31.107 grams and 38.725 millimetres.

Its face value stands at the end of the legend: R1.

It is struck in proof: the field shines like a mirror, design and lettering stand matt on it. The mintage, that is the number of pieces struck, is 1,000. It comes in a case with a certificate of authenticity.

The Essence of South Africa in Finest Silver

The Krugerrand is regarded as the epitome of South Africa's rich heritage and as the world's most successful bullion coin. Originally introduced as a gold coin in 1967, it was minted in a silver variant for its 50th anniversary in 2017. The silver coins have since become equally sought-after, and this special edition for the Johannesburg Coin Fair 2024 is a shining example of the fascination this precious metal holds.

A Masterpiece of Coin Minting

Every detail of the 1 oz Silver Krugerrand 2024 reflects the highest minting craftsmanship. The coin is issued in "Proof" (PP) quality, representing the highest possible minting quality. Every detail, from the fine lines of the Springbok design to the characteristic profile of Paul Kruger, is perfectly highlighted by the polished finish.

Unique Design with Historical Significance

The obverse of the coin features the portrait of Paul Kruger, President of the South African Republic from 1883 to 1902. The reverse displays the classic Springbok design, complemented by a privy mark depicting the Johannesburg skyline, underscoring the connection to the Johannesburg Coin Fair. This design combines South Africa's rich history and modern flair in a single, striking motif.

An Investment Object and Collector's Item

The 1 oz Silver Krugerrand 2024 is more than just a coin – it is a piece of culture, an investment with history, and a symbol of the beauty and permanence of silver. With a fine weight of 31.10 grams and a fineness of 999/1,000, it is a sought-after object for investors who value quality and exclusivity.

Value Stability and Tax Advantages

As an investment product, silver offers not only physical beauty but also financial advantages. Profits from the sale of silver are tax-free under certain conditions, provided a holding period of at least one year is observed. Furthermore, silver is in demand as an industrial metal, and its limited availability combined with high demand contributes to long-term value stability.

Scope of Delivery and Authenticity

The limited 2024 1 oz Silver Krugerrand is delivered in an elegant original case from the South African Mint, together with a certificate of authenticity confirming the authenticity and exclusivity of this special edition.

Conclusion

The 1 oz Silver Krugerrand 2024 Johannesburg Coin Fair Proof is a coin that, through its strictly limited mintage and distinctive design, not only makes collectors' hearts race but also convinces as a valuable investment object. Its timeless elegance and the blend of tradition and modernity make it an indispensable addition to any collection.
