The ounce

Colour.Only on the ounce.

The four smaller coins show the same two leaves in pure silver. On the ounce they glow in colour, with a technique the Mint introduced in 2026.

Closer to the original

Two leaves.Two seasons.

The Mint calls this technique the Vivid Toning Effect. Light passes through the colour layer, strikes the polished relief beneath and is reflected back. This makes the leaves glow as if from within.

Silver Maple Leaf Fractional Set 2027 – five sizes, one unmistakable maple leaf

  • Five-piece denomination set: 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz and 1/20 oz – together 60.07 g of the purest fine silver in 999.9.
  • Strictly limited: Only 3,500 sets of this year of issue are being produced worldwide.
  • Reverse Proof: mirror-finished raised maple leaves on a finely frosted background – the reversal of the classic Proof finish.
  • Colour across the entire ounce: The 1 oz piece has been enhanced with the Royal Canadian Mint's "Vivid Toning Effect".
  • Tarnish protection straight from the mint: The Silver Maple Leaf is the only coin of its kind protected against tarnishing – MINTSHIELD technology from Ottawa keeps the surface permanently clear.
  • Fully equipped: each coin individually capsuled, all together in a black presentation case, plus the mint's certificate of authenticity.

Canadian autumn, captured in precious metal. The Fractional Set 2027 brings together five silver coins from the world-famous Maple Leaf series in graduated formats – from the full ounce at 38 mm down to the dainty 1/20 oz piece, which measures just 16 mm yet still shows every leaf vein. Anyone who lays the five coins side by side sees one design at five scales: that is the special appeal of a Fractional Set.

Design, minting quality and face value

The obverse design comes from Canadian artist Nathalie Lagacé and shows two sugar maple (Acer saccharum) leaves on a branch, their stems crossing at the bottom. On the 1 oz coin, the foliage shifts from summer green to autumnal yellow-orange-red – a colour effect that appears to glow beneath the polished relief. The reverse bears the portrait of King Charles III, designed by Steven Rosati. The five face values of 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 Canadian dollars add up to 15 CAD in total; the edge of all pieces is reeded.

Why silver – and why the Maple Leaf in particular?

Silver has accompanied mankind as a coinage metal for thousands of years; it has served as trade currency, status symbol and store of value. Today a second driver is added: industrial demand from electronics, solar and medical technology. Supply is naturally limited, while the material itself is virtually indestructible. There is also a tax aspect that many investors appreciate: profits from the sale of physical silver are generally tax-free, provided the holding period was at least one year. As a tangible asset, the metal is well suited for inflation hedging and crisis protection – and it is precisely the small denominations that could serve as a means of exchange in times of currency uncertainty, since they can be finely dosed.

Gold is mankind's oldest currency and has outlived all others. Silver is its little brother – tangible, divisible and free of counterparty risk.

Fractional Set or individual bullion coins?

The regular Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin is available as a plain 1 oz bullion coin, concise and with a low premium. The set takes a different approach. It scores with its low mintage of 3,500 pieces, the elaborate Reverse Proof finish, the colour technology on the largest piece, and the complete presentation in a case. As a result, the premium over the pure material value is naturally higher – typical for collector's editions, which draw their appeal from rarity and craftsmanship. Similar Fractional Sets from previous years have long been sought-after vintages among collectors, and the Maple Leaf family in gold, silver, platinum and palladium enjoys an excellent reputation worldwide.

In short: this set combines numismatic ambition with tangible precious metal. A gift with substance, a collector's item with a signature – and a building block for anyone who wants to pass on wealth across generations.
