The original

The Mark was part of daily life. The memory remains.

The 1-DM coin entered circulation in 1950, designed by Josef Bernhart. This 2026 coin takes up its design once more. It is not an issue of the Federal Republic of Germany or the Deutsche Bundesbank.

Deutsche Mark 2026: The Icon of the Economic Miracle in 65mm Large Format

  • Strictly limited: Very low mintage of only 500 pieces worldwide
  • Growth opportunities: Very high value appreciation potential thanks to the strict limitation and a loyal D-Mark collector community
  • Rarity: A rare collector's coin from the Kettner "Symbolism" series
  • Investment goal: A sought-after collector's item that, due to its strict limitation, holds high value appreciation potential
  • Minting quality: The highest possible minting quality "Proof" (PP) with mirrored fields and frosted relief
  • Format: An impressive 65 mm diameter with exactly 1 ounce (31.1 grams) of fine silver with a fineness of 999.9/1,000
  • Design: The legendary numeral "1" between oak branches and the federal eagle, based on the mark coin from 1950
  • Manufacturer: Kettner Edelmetalle, exclusive in-house minting
  • Country of origin: Republic of Liberia, face value 20 dollars

Hardly any coin has passed through as many hands as the mark coin. For half a century, from 1950 to 2001, it sat in wallets, piggy banks, and cash register drawers across the Federal Republic, until the euro replaced the cash currency. Along the way, it became the symbol of an entire era. With the 1 Ounce Deutsche Mark 2026, Kettner Edelmetalle brings this icon back: as an exclusive collector's coin made of pure silver, minted in a mintage of only 500 pieces. Anyone looking for silver coins with real history has found exactly what they're looking for here.

A Design Everyone Knows, Retold in 65 Millimeters

The original design comes from Munich artist Josef Bernhart. His 1-DM circulation coin made of copper-nickel was rather modest at 23.5 mm. The new edition brings it to 65 mm, almost three times the diameter. Only on this surface does it become visible what hardly anyone noticed in everyday life: the finely veined oak leaves, the small acorns on the branches, and the elegant pearl border that encloses the field. At the center sits the imposing "1", below it the inscription DEUTSCHE MARK and the year 2026.

The reverse side belongs to the federal eagle. With widely spread wings and scale-like plumage, it appears almost three-dimensional. Along the top runs the inscription "1 UNZE 9999 FEINSILBER", and at the bottom again DEUTSCHE MARK. Looking closely, one discovers the markings "20 DOLLARS" and "Republic of Liberia" on the wings. Between the talons sits a discreet coat of arms of the issuing country. In this way, the official face value is integrated into the design without disturbing the overall nostalgic impression.

Proof Quality: Mirror Shine Meets Relief

This coin was struck in Proof quality, the pinnacle discipline of coin production. Highly polished dies create deeply mirrored fields, against which the frosted relief stands out sharply defined. With such a large diameter, this contrast is a true visual experience. A reeded edge rounds off the first-class quality. Each piece is delivered in a protective coin capsule. It should stay there, too, since fingerprints are the natural enemy of any Proof surface.

Why 500 Pieces Make All the Difference

A look back at D-Mark history is worthwhile. The most sought-after original vintages of the mark coin, 1954 G and 1955 G from the Karlsruhe mint, are considered key pieces within their collecting field. The Deutsche Mark 2026 is many times scarcer. This very low mintage makes it a true rarity that will not simply be re-minted once sold out.

It is precisely this limitation that excites collectors. A design known to millions of people from everyday life meets a quantity that would barely be enough for a small town. This results in a pronounced value appreciation potential, even though future prices can, of course, never be guaranteed. For comparison: bullion classics such as the silver Krugerrand or the Maple Leaf are issued in mintages of millions. This 1-ounce silver coin plays in a completely different league of rarity.

"For generations, the mark coin stood for reliability. This minting preserves that feeling in one ounce of pure fine silver."

In Comparison: Which Deutsche Mark Suits Your Collection?

Kettner Edelmetalle offers this design in several versions, each with its own appeal:

  • 1/50 Ounce Silver Deutsche Mark 2026 (PP): A charming miniature format and a lovely gift. Naturally, there is little room for fine details.
  • 2 Ounce Silver Deutsche Mark 2026: Double the silver weight, limited to 250 pieces and priced accordingly higher.
  • 1 Ounce Silver Deutsche Mark 2026, partially gilded (Reverse Proof): 100 pieces with golden accents for lovers of refined mintings.
  • This 65mm Edition: The largest design surface for a one-ounce coin and classic Proof look. Ideal for anyone who wants to enjoy the original design in its purest form.

By the way: anyone who already owns the Reichsmark 2026 in 65 mm format from the same series will find here the fitting counterpart from Germany's post-war era.

Silver: The Coin Metal with Tradition

For thousands of years, silver has been a monetary and coinage metal: from ancient drachmas to thalers to the silver 5-DM pieces. It is durable, retains its properties across generations, and has been regarded in many cultures as a symbol of prosperity and prestige. Added to this is strong demand from industry, electronics, solar, and medical technology combined with limited supply. Many buyers also value the metal as an inflation hedge and crisis protection. With this minting, however, the collector's value is clearly the main focus. A tax advantage: profits from private sales in Germany are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year.

A Piece of D-Mark for the Next Generation

This coin fits as a centerpiece in your own collection or as a gift for parents and grandparents who grew up with the mark. It tells a story you can hold in your hand, and one day it can be passed on to children and grandchildren. Secure one of the strictly limited pieces now, before all 500 are sold out.
