The finish
Two ways to catch the light.
Two silver coins with the same design, both 65 millimetres across: on the left the ounce in Proof, on the right these five ounces in Reverse Proof. This shows the difference in where they shine.

Proof
The field shines deep like a mirror, the motif lies on it in matte relief.

Reverse Proof
Here it is the other way round: the field is frosted, the motif gleams like a mirror.

Reverse Proof
One numeral.Struck mirror bright.
Numeral, oak leaves and lettering gleam as if polished, while the field stays frosted. Every detail stands out in the light.

The other side
An eagle.Struck in silver.
Wings spread wide, with the inscription 5 UNZEN 9999 FEINSILBER above them. The wings bear the small words 50 DOLLARS and Republic of Liberia, and the arms of Liberia sit between the talons: this Kettner edition is issued for Liberia.

The original
The Mark was part of daily life. The memory remains.
The 1-DM coin entered circulation in 1950, designed by Josef Bernhart. This 2026 coin takes up its design once more. It is not an issue of the Federal Republic of Germany or the Deutsche Bundesbank.

Three editions
Three sizes.One memory.
Shown in their true proportions. For comparison: the 1-DM coin measured 23.5 millimetres, the silver Heiermann 29.

1 Deutsche Mark 2026 – Five Ounces of Fine Silver in Reverse Proof, Limited to 99 Pieces
Strictly limited: A mintage of only 99 pieces worldwide – there will be no more examples of this 5-ounce edition.
Growth opportunities: Very high potential for value appreciation due to the scarce number of pieces and the strong demand for D-Mark designs.
Rarity: An extremely rare collector's coin in an impressive large format of 65 millimeters.
Investment goal: An exclusive collector's item whose small mintage harbors special long-term potential.
Design: The large "1" between two oak branches with acorns, on the reverse the eagle with widely spread wings – reflective against a silky matte background.
Manufacturer: Kettner Edelmetalle, exclusive in-house minting.
Country of origin: Republic of Liberia as the issuing country, country of origin Germany.
For around fifty years, it passed through millions of hands. The small Mark with the oak leaves lay in cash registers, piggy banks, and coat pockets, from 1950 until the D-Mark's farewell. Hardly any coin is better known in this country. Kettner Edelmetalle brings back this piece of currency history in 2026 – not in copper-nickel and not at 23.5 millimeters like the old circulation coin, but with a diameter of 65 millimeters and five ounces of pure silver. The result is a true rarity. With a mintage of only 99 pieces, this edition is among the scarcest mintages of the entire "Deutsche Mark 2026" series.
The Design: A "One" Everyone Knows
The design of the value side follows the original Mark coin, whose design goes back to the Munich artist Josef Bernhart. In the center stands the large digit "1", clear and without embellishment. It is framed on the left and right by two oak branches, each with an acorn, below which is the inscription "DEUTSCHE MARK" and the year 2026. A fine beaded circle runs around the coin's design. What was tiny on the circulation coin unfolds in full splendor at 65 millimeters: every leaf vein and every notch in the foliage is clearly visible.
On the other side, the eagle spreads its wings across the entire coin field. The plumage is worked out down to the individual feather, the breast structured in a diamond pattern, the talons powerfully spread. At the tail sits a small coat of arms with a sailing ship, the coat of arms of Liberia. The face value of 50 dollars and the notation "Republic of Liberia" appear in the wings. The inscription at the top states the weight "5 OUNCES" and the reference to fine silver, while "DEUTSCHE MARK" appears once more at the bottom. The reeded edge completes the presentation.
Reverse Proof: The Shine Lies on the Design
The classic Proof finish shows a mirrored background while the relief remains matte. Reverse Proof reverses this principle. The coin's field receives a silky matte surface, while the oak leaves, digit, eagle, and lettering shine with a mirror finish. This makes the designs stand out almost three-dimensionally. Especially with such a large diameter, this contrast is a true experience – and a finishing technique used almost exclusively for small series.

Why 99 Pieces Make the Difference
Classic bullion silver coins such as Maple Leaf or Vienna Philharmonic are produced in the millions and are traded primarily based on their metal content. This has its advantages if your sole concern is getting as much silver as possible per euro. This mintage plays in a different league. Here, in addition to fine silver, what counts is rarity, elaborate finishing, and a design with emotional appeal. With a very low mintage of 99 pieces, one thing is clear: not every collector who wants to own this coin will be able to get it. It is precisely this limitation that fuels the potential for value appreciation that makes small editions so sought after in the collector's market.
In Comparison: The Gold Mark, the 2-Ounce Edition, and the Large Five-Ounce Coin
The "One" has been immortalized in precious metal before. In 2001, the Deutsche Bundesbank issued a 12-gram gold coin made of fine gold to mark the farewell to the D-Mark – the famous Gold Mark – with a mintage of one million pieces. Within the 2026 series, the design is also available as a 2-ounce silver coin in Reverse Proof, 55 millimeters in diameter, with 250 pieces. The present edition goes a significant step further: more than twice the fine silver, ten millimeters more in diameter, and a mintage that is once again considerably lower. Anyone seeking this design in its most impressive silver form will find it here.
The D-Mark is history. Its image in five ounces of fine silver remains – for you and for those to whom you will one day pass it on.
Please note: This is an in-house mintage by Kettner Edelmetalle, not an issue of the Federal Republic of Germany or the Deutsche Bundesbank. The issuing country is the Republic of Liberia, hence the face value in dollars.
Silver – A Coin Metal with History and Substance
For thousands of years, silver has served as a monetary metal, a medium of trade, and a symbol of wealth and prestige. It is durable and retains its physical properties across generations. At the same time, it possesses genuine intrinsic value: electronics, solar, and medical technology depend on this white precious metal, and new technologies continue to drive industrial demand higher while supply remains limited. Many people therefore also value silver as a tangible inflation hedge and crisis protection. In the case of this mintage, however, the passion for collecting is clearly in the foreground.
Another advantage: in Germany, profits from the sale of silver are generally tax-free after a holding period of at least one year. And because silver is virtually imperishable, this collector's coin is excellently suited as a family heirloom for children and grandchildren.
